'WandaVision' Director Debunks 10th Episode Theory & Says Paul Bettany "Dug Himself A Hole" With Fans

One of the best parts about binging a show is that your expectations are likely minimal about how the series will end. You can blow through a whole season over a couple of days and not even dwell on the mysteries, teases, and character arcs until the whole thing is wrapped up. Well, “WandaVision” has been slowly trickling out over the course of a couple of months, giving fans ample time to speculate, theorize, and generally drive themselves silly with outlandish ideas about what’s going to happen. And when you add to it a lead actor, Paul Bettany, teasing a massive cameo to come, you better believe fans are anxiously awaiting the series finale this Friday.

But what if Bettany was just playing a joke? What if the finale of “WandaVision” is just more solid storytelling without some major, MCU-shattering reveal? Well, as Matt Shakman hints at in a couple of interviews, he thinks fans might leave the upcoming finale utterly disappointed.

Shakman spoke to Huffington Post about the upcoming finale of “WandaVision.” And when he was asked about Paul Bettany’s continued insistence that there is a major cameo that has yet to be revealed, the director didn’t go so far as to contradict his actor, but instead, he just made it seem like maybe, just maybe, Bettany was playing a bit of a joke on fans this whole time, teasing something that doesn’t exist. Well, kinda.

You see, it’s becoming more and more clear that maybe Paul Bettany’s mystery co-star that he said he shared “fireworks” on set with during filming is in fact…himself. In the last episode of “WandaVision,” a duplicate Vision (known by comic fans as White Vision) was revealed. And now, it’s assumed the two versions of Bettany’s character will meet up in the finale, thus the actor was joking about the cameo since it was really him acting with himself.

Shakman didn’t confirm this speculation about Bettany’s joke, but said, “I’m gonna let Paul Bettany answer that question. He dug himself this hole. He can get out of it.”

Shakman was again asked if maybe Bettany was referring to White Vision as his co-star, and the filmmaker added, “I don’t know. We’ll have to let Paul answer that question.”

Unfortunately for Shakman, he’s turned into the defacto spoilsport in another way too. One of the other speculative talking points about “WandaVision” is that there is a secret 10th episode of the show that Marvel has been hiding, maybe featuring all the big, huge, cRaZy reveals that fans have been dying for. Sorry, folks.

When asked by Screen Rant about the possibility of a 10th episode, Shakman replied, “Gosh, I wonder who would’ve directed it. But we’ll see. I know there was a Making Of episode the following week, so there’s some continuing ‘WandaVision’ in the Disney+ world the following week. But we’re wrapping up our show.”

It appears that fans will just have to be happy for a regular old finale for “WandaVision” without the secret appearance of the Fantastic Four or the introduction of the X-Men or whatever other crazy theories exist. Instead, we can just hope for a solid end to a story that has caught the imagination of many MCU fans. The finale arrives on Disney+ this Friday.
