“We threw in every element: the opposites-attract story line, the Jewish-but-not-too-Jewish funny leading man, the klutzy woman whom you kind of love, the sassy best friend, the black best friend, the wise old grandmother,” writer/director David Wain told EW about his new purposefully cliché rom-com. ”Anything we could think of, we found a place for it in there.” Titled “They Came Together,” the comedy stars Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler and basically acts to send-up and spoof all meet cute romantic comedies.

Also featuring Cobie Smulders, Max Greenfield (“New Girl“), Bill Hader, Ed Helms, Melanie Lynskey, and cameos from Christopher Meloni, Ellie Kemper, Michael Ian Black, Ken Marino and many many more, this one charmed us quite completely at Sundance, where James Rocchi declared that the film “has a silly, goofy smile and a sharp, savage bite.” Here’s the official synopsis:

When Joel (Paul Rudd) and Molly (Amy Poehler) meet, it’s hate at first sight: his big Corporate Candy Company threatens to shut down her quirky indie candy shop. Plus, Joel is hung up on his sexy ex (Cobie Smulders). But amazingly, they fall in love, until they break up about two thirds of the way through, and Molly starts dating her accountant (Ed Helms). But then right at the end…well you’ll just have to see. (Hint: Joel makes a big speech and they get back together.)

“They Came Together” hits cinemas and VOD on June 27th. Watch two new clips below.
