Watch: Brady Corbet's Short Film 'Protect You + Me' As He Gears Up To Make His Feature Directorial Debut

In a short yet effective span of time, Brady Corbet has quietly turned in a range of stellar supporting and co-lead performances, from Gregg Araki‘s “Mysterious Skin” to the more recent “Martha Marcy May Marlene.” The latest, Antonio Campos‘ “Simon Killer,” is a star revelation for Corbet — his role is chilling, confident, and unblinking — and now the actor has decided to take his talents behind the camera.

THR reports the 24-year-old actor will next direct a period piece set in France, from a script that also wrote. He has had considerable writing experience prior to the move, having co-written “Simon Killer” with Campos in addition to collaborating with director Mona Fastvold on the upcoming thriller, “The Sleepwalker,” but directing remains largely a new avenue.

Corbet did direct a short, “Protect You + Me,” starring Daniel London and Patricia Conolly, which landed an Honorable Mention at Sundance in 2009. It definitely showcases the same unsettled moodiness of his frequent colleagues, and it gives an exciting glimpse as to what we might expect from his feature debut’s period setting. However, more details will have to wait, as the untitled film’s plot is still under wraps, and the cast is still being locked into place.
