We’re less than two weeks out from the 67th Annual Primetime Emmys, and as is tradition come awards time, THR has been conducting roundtable discussions with many of the Emmy nominees. The latest installment of the roundtable series, “Close Up with The Hollywood Reporter,” focuses on the comedy programs and features the showrunners of four of the six nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Running just over an hour long and uncensored, the Stacey Wilson and Lacey Rose-moderated discussion between Kenya Barris (Black-ish), Alec Berg (“SIlicon Valley”), Robert Carlock (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Jay Duplass (“Togetherness”), Steve Levitan (“Modern Family”) and Jill Soloway (“Transparent”) delves into the difficulties of being a showrunner on a comedy show. Everything gets discussed, from the dynamics of a writers’ room to notes from the networks and collaborating with actors.
