Watch: Creepy Teaser Trailer For Kevin Smith's 'Red State'

For all his loud-mouthed, look-at-me, attention-getting, I-hate-the-media antics, we’ll say this: “Red State” looks unlike anything Kevin Smith has ever done. And that’s exciting.

Starring Kevin Pollak, Michael Parks, Kyle Gallner, Melissa Leo, Dermot Mulroney, Michael Angarano, Steven Root and John Goodman the film follows a group of kids who encounter a crazed preacher (based on Fred Phelps, founder of the Westboro Baptist Church) who gives a whole new meaning to the term “extreme fundamentalism.” This initial teaser reveals a Kevin Smith we’ve never seen before. Shot pretty much vérité style, it has a quasi-documentary feel and it definitely feels far more raw and immediate than anything the director has tried before. We were sufficiently creeped out.

The trailer closes with an indication that the film will open in March….so perhaps that crazy Sundance auction won’t be happening after all? Either way, this should be one of the biggest draws at Sundance when it premieres next month and we expect a lot more bits and looks in the lead up to the festival. [/Film]
