Watch: First Trailer For YA Adaptation 'The Maze Runner' Starring Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario & Will Poulter

The Maze Runner

“It’s really gritty, it’s a lot grittier than I think people are going to expect it to be,” “The Maze Runner” and “Teen Wolf” star Dylan O’Brien told Collider last summer about “The Maze Runner.”  “What’s funny is that, in terms of subject matter, something like ‘The Hunger Games‘ is much more viciously violent than this story is but when you see the movies though, it’s interesting how — I think this is going to surprise people with how dirty and dark it is.” But the bigger question is not whether or not it can match the intensity of “The Hunger Games,” but capture a similar audience.

Well, some of that will start to get answered with the first trailer which has dropped tonight. In case you forgot, this one also features Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter and Patricia Clarkson, is based on the best-selling the book (the first in a series, duh) by James Dasher, and follows Thomas, a teen who wakes up with amnesia and soon finds himself in a completely closed environment called the Glade. There he finds around 60 other teen boys who have been trying to escape from the enclosure for two years through a surrounding maze. Things change drastically when a comatose girl arrives with a strange note. So hopefully something a bit fresher from the recycled dystopian themed YA movies….oh wait….

“The Maze Runner” opens on September 19th. Watch below.
