“It’s darker and funnier. It goes to each extreme a little bit more,” director Yorgos Lanthimos said about “Alps” earlier this year. The first teaser trailer for the film has landed at IndieWire and, as claimed, it’s both dark and hilarious.
The film, which brings “Dogtooth” actress Aggeliki Papoulia back into the fold, tells the story about a group of people who agree to stand in for the lost loved ones of others, replicating their behavior and gestures, to help with the grieving process. As was revealed in the movie’s press notes, there is a very strict guideline of rules that these people must play by, and we presume that in the film some of these will broken. We won’t add much about the teaser except to say just watch it — it’s worth it for the punchline.
The trailer is an intriguing glimpse at the picture, which from this very brief look seems like it will match the chatter generated by “Dogtooth.” The film will hit Venice and TIFF, but no distributor or release date is yet lined up for “Alps.” Give it a whirl below.
