Young people going wild in horrific and inspiring ways will feature in a couple of October movies that couldn’t be more different. That said, there is that tenuous common theme that links them, and so we’ve rounded them up together for convenience’s sake.
First up is Kimberly Peirce‘s remake of “Carrie” starring Chloe Moretz, and the director is promising something a bit different from Brian De Palma‘s classic. “I say this with all due respect to Brian, but his film is semicampy. I wanted to get inside this girl’s journey. And particularly her bond with her mother, which was huge for me,” he told the New York Times. And in the scene below, we watch as Chloe Moretz’s powerful but bullied teen is locked away by her fundamentalist mother, and it likely underscores a sentiment by the director that states, “I think girls need to break up with their mothers.” We’ll see how that goes on October 18th.
Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe will act out quite differently in “Kill Your Darlings,” where his controlled upbringing gets tossed away when his Allen Ginsberg meets the charismatic Lucien Carr, played by Dane DeHaan, at college. In this clip, we see the two bond over their common interests in literature as a new friendship is formed. It soon takes a sinister turn, and you’ll have to hit theaters on October 16th to find out why. Watch below.
