Watch: New Trailer For 'Thor: The Dark World' Throws Down The Hammer

Thor: The Dark World

While “Thor” was initially perceived as potentially the goofiest possibility in the Marvel universe, the studio quickly made it clear that theirs was a grounded hero, with mythological family issues and galactic romance for an Earthbound woman. And when titling the sequel, “Thor: The Dark World,” it’s clear that things are going to get both bigger and badder with the second standalone movie. But how does it play out?

Well, the brand new trailer for the movie has arrived, giving fans a closer peek at the upcoming superhero showdown. Yep, amongst the heavily hinted-at epic changes in store, “Thor: The Dark World” will probably mark Loki’s last major appearance in the Marvel-verse (Tom Hiddleston recently revealed the character won’t be back for “The Avengers: Age Of Ultron). Anyway, here’s the official synopsis:

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Old and new faces Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins will bring “Thor: The Dark World” to theaters this fall on November 8th.
