Watch: Steve Carell Advises Ryan Gosling Not To Be Himself In New Look At 'Crazy Stupid Love'

Yep, this week is pretty much going to be nothing but tentpole movie news and comic book updates as Comic-Con gets into full swing. And meanwhile, at your local multiplex it seems to be nothing but wizards, robots, pirates and foul mouthed comedies, which makes next week’s arrival of the layered, PG-13 rom-com “Crazy Stupid Love” all the more interesting.

Directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (the duo behind “Bad Santa” and “I Love You Phillip Morris”) and written by Dan Fogelman (”Cars,” “Bolt”), the picture centers on Cal (Steve Carell), who’s life unravels while he deals with a marital crisis (his wife, played by Julianne Moore cheated on him with Kevin Bacon) as he tries to manage his relationship with his children. He’s taken under the wing of a smooth-talking ladies man (Ryan Gosling) who helps him regain his confidence while also falling head-over-heels in love with Hannah (Emma Stone). And if that isn’t enough, there is a whole other plot thread based around Cal’s son who is dealing with a crush on his babysitter and there’s a teacher played by Marisa Tomei who factors into Cal’s new love life. It’s going to be a lot of ball juggling, and we’ll see if the directors can pull it off, but judging by what we’ve seen so far the balance of tender and funny seems to be right on point.

A new clip/trailer for the film has landed, scored to “This Modern Love” by Bloc Party, and it offers another look at the film with lots of new footage, swinging the focus mostly over to the budding romance between Gosling and Stone. It also dips a bit further into Cal’s son’s obsession with his babysitter and finds a steady balance tonally between the heartfelt and hilarious.

At any rate, the film continues to look very promising and will hopefully be a bit of a change of pace from our summer viewing this far. “Crazy Stupid Love” opens on July 29th. Trailer (via ONTD) below and a batch of new stills as well.
