'Where'd You Go, Bernadette' Exclusive Music: Listen To A Track From Graham Reynolds' Upcoming Score For The Richard Linklater Film

Just because this summer seems dominated by Disney fare and superhero sequels doesn’t mean that there aren’t quality films arriving during these brutally hot months. One of the films that everyone who reads this site will likely want to check out comes in August and is from one of our favorite filmmakers, titled “Where’d You Go, Bernadette.”

And in honor of the film’s impending release, we’re thrilled to be able to share an exclusive track from the upcoming soundtrack for the family dramedy directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Richard Linklater. Composed by Graham Reynolds, the track “Palmer Station” gives audiences a chance to hear just how distinct the soundtrack for ‘Bernadette’ is. Reynolds has worked with Linklater on a number of projects over the years, composing the music for films like “Before Midnight,” “Last Flag Flying,” “Bernie,” and “A Scanner Darkly,” among others. ‘Bernadette’ marks the seventh collaboration for the duo.

“‘Where’d You Go Bernadette’ has two main settings: rainy Seattle and a trip to Antarctica,” said composer Reynolds. “The soundtrack palette follows in suit. The Seattle palette is playful, with pizzicato strings, a bass made of rubber bands, and quirky percussion. The Antarctica palette is more ethereal, a mix of evolving synths with strings. The family has its own set of themes, based around an intimate lineup of piano, violin, and cello.”

Linklater added, “Collaborating with Graham over the years has been a joy. I truly think he can do anything. He’s always able to dial in on the characters and story and bring out the best in scenes. On each project, it’s fun to see him find something new.”

The upcoming film stars Cate Blanchett, Billy Crudup, Kristen Wiig, Judy Greer, Laurence Fishburne, and Emma Nelson.

“Where’d You Go Bernadette” arrives in theaters on August 16. However, the film’s soundtrack from Reynolds will arrive digitally on August 9, and you can pre-order now.
