After breaking out with “The Maid” in 2009, director Sebastián Silva has been inching his way toward working with bigger stars without losing his personal storytelling voice. He teamed with Michael Cera for back-to-back movies “Crystal Fairy & The Magical Cactus” and “Magic Magic,” and then worked with Kristen Wiig on “Nasty Baby.” Now he’s once again dialing up Cera, and bringing along more names his next effort.

Will Ferrell, Catherine Keener and Michael Cera will be starring in Silva’s “Captain Dad.” While the title might seem lighthearted, the film is actually a thriller, following a married couple who take a birthday sailing trip to the Caribbean with their six kids and their partners, only for things to start going south thanks to the family patriarch’s poor sailing abilities and conflicts with those on board.
So a rare dramatic role for Ferrell, but a potentially juicy one, and we’ll watch Keener in pretty much everything. And it’s another one to keep an eye on from Silva, who’s continuing to put together surprising casts for his unique pictures. [Variety]
