Zoe Kravitz Officially Joins Matt Reeve's 'The Batman' As Selina Kyle/Catwoman

We are creeping closer and closer to the beginning of production on Matt Reeves’ highly-anticipated superhero film, “The Batman,” and as we get closer to that film’s eventual start, more cast members are being announced. Currently, we know that Robert Pattinson will star as Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, and he’ll be joined by Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Jonah Hill as…someone. Now, thanks to a new Deadline report, we can add Zoe Kravitz to the growing list.

According to the report, Kravitz has signed on to co-star in “The Batman,” and she’ll play the iconic Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. There’s still no word on whether or not she’ll suit up as Catwoman in the film (odds are that’s gonna happen, right?), but she has officially joined a pretty incredible list of actresses that have donned the cat ears on the big screen and TV. Previously, Catwoman has been portrayed by Anne Hathaway, Michelle Pfieffer, Halle Berry (the less we talk about that atrocity, the best), Camren Bicondova, Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, and Eartha Kitt. Some have been better than others, but overall, this isn’t a terrible group to be amongst.

Kravitz is probably best known for her film work in titles such as “Dope,” “Divergent,” “Rough Night,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and the recent ‘Fantastic Beasts’ films. Most recently, she can be seen in the HBO series “Big Little Lies” and is currently in production on the upcoming reboot/remake series of “High Fidelity” that’s coming to Disney+ at some point in the future.

As we’ve talked about before, Kravitz is just another in what is expected to be a big cast for “The Batman.” According to reports, Reeves is building his arsenal of villains in the first film that can be used in the future of the series. So, even if Kravitz doesn’t have a huge role in “The Batman,” odds are the director is hedging his bets and wants to secure a big name for the role in the future.

“The Batman” is set to begin production in 2020 and will arrive in theaters on June 25, 2021.
