'The Batman': Zoe Kravitz Says Playing Catwoman Is "A Little Scary" & Thinks Pattinson Is "Perfect" As Batman

Zoe Kravitz has had her fair share of franchise film experience. In her short career, she’s already starred in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Divergent,” and “X-Men: First Class.” Let’s also not forget her role in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series. But in a new interview with Variety, she admits that tackling the upcoming film “The Batman” still scared her.

As we already know, Kravitz has signed on to star in “The Batman,” playing the role of Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. It’s a role that has been seen on the big screen before, most recently portrayed by Anne Hathaway in “The Dark Knight Rises.” But for Kravitz, even with her experience, stepping into the DC film universe is still a daunting task.

“It was a little scary, but also whenever I get nervous about something, I feel it pushes me to a better place anyway, so I welcome the nerves,” said Kravitz. “If you start focusing too much on what people are going to think you’re doing yourself a disservice, it’s almost like you’re putting your energy in the wrong place. Of course, I want to honor the fans and hope they like what I do with the role, but in order to do what I think I need to do with Catwoman I have to go internal and forget about the rest of the world.”

One thing she is clearly less worried about is Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, aka The Batman. When asked about what it’s like working with the actor, she gushed about how great he is and how he’ll do amazing as the Caped Crusader.

“I’ve never worked with him before, but we’ve been together for the last few weeks, I had to camera test with him and now we’ve been training together and rehearsing together and he’s just a delightful person and such a wonderful, thoughtful actor,” she added. “I think he’s perfect for the role and it’s going to be such an adventure. I’m excited to have him as my partner in crime and to be there to support each other, because it’s intense. It’s going to be a long shoot and there’s a lot of pressure, and I know he has my back and I have his.”

We have to admit, so far director Matt Reeves seems to have something special cooking with “The Batman.” The cast is filled with accomplished, quality actors. The interviews seem to point to a ‘Batman’ film unlike others that have come before. And yesterday’s camera test video hints at a look that we haven’t really explored in a film about the superhero. Consider us excited.

“The Batman” arrives in theaters on June 25, 2021.
