“Patrick Melrose”
Synopsis: Patrick Melrose’s harrowing odyssey from a deeply traumatic childhood through adult substance abuse and, ultimately, toward recovery; Melrose is an aristocratic playboy who struggles to overcome the damage inflicted by an abusive father.
What You Need To Know: Due to his, in recent years, reliance on roles that play in the same sandbox of range and versatility, it’s easy to take for granted how talented Benedict Cumberbatch is. This is punctuated further when his latest starring role takes place in the Marvel Universe as “Doctor Strange,” a fun, if not totally, exploratory role. With “Patrick Melrose” he’s able to dive deeper into a troubled mindset, based on a hugely popular book, with astonishing talent flanking him. As a miniseries that only runs five episodes long, the weight of the subject matter along with Cumberbatch’s central performance it will be one of the springs must watches. The show co-stars Allison Williams and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Release Date: May 12 on Showtime.
