13 Shows To Watch In October: 'Peaky Blinders,' 'Mr. Robot,' 'Watchmen' & More - Page 2 of 3

Treadstone
What You Need to Know: A story about the creation of superhuman super spies and a protocol recently put in place to develop unstoppable superhuman assassins “Treadstone” sounds ludicrous by description alone. At least it does until you realize it’s a continuation of the Jason Bourne saga which, for all of its larger than life elements, always retained a sense of hard-fought-for grittiness.  From the creator of “HeroesTim Kring, there’s the experience of taking modern spins science fiction elements. Starring Jeremy Irvine, Hyo-Joo Han, and Gabrielle Scharnitzky, “Treadstone” was given a straight to order for the first season by its network USA, making the promise of the quality of the series a bit more optimistic.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres October 15 on USA Network.

Limetown
What You Need to Know: Apparently, much to our surprise, there is another series poised to make its debut on Facebook Watch and that can only be a positive if it means something as wonderful as “Sorry For Your Loss.” That being said, much of the promise of the former came from its star whereas “Limetown” is banking on the draw of Jessica Biel who, regardless of what you enjoy about her active, doesn’t have the same level of clout, meaning that the word of mouth for the show will need to be extraordinary to pull viewers in. A mystery that focuses on one journalist’s (Biel) plight to discover the truth, “Limetown” is created by newcomers Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres October 16 on Facebook Watch.

Modern Love
What You Need To Know: This Amazon anthology series is based on a popular weekly column published by The New York Times about love, relationships, and human connection. “Modern Love” is unique in that instead of being singularly focused on romantic relationships, the series features all types of love: sexual, romantic, familial, platonic, and self-love. The show features a notable cast including Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Andy Garcia, Catherine Keener, Dev Patel, Sophia Boutella, and John Slattery.  Interestingly, actress Emmy Rossum, former star of Showtime series “Shameless” will be directing one episode of the series this season.  One part comedy and one part romance, this show will delight and captivate, reflecting relatable stories about life and love in New York City.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres on October 18 on Amazon Prime Video.

Living with Yourself
What You Need to Know: Every once and a while a project comes along with a premise and actor so promising that the role seems tailor-made to that particular performer’s gifts. This is exactly the case in the new series “Living With Yourself” created by Timothy Greenberg and starring the wonderful Paul Rudd in his latest leading role in a television series. The first trailer for the show was just bizarre enough to immediately pull focus, mimicking Rudd’s frenzied energy for comedic effect. Directed by “Little Miss Sunshine” duo Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, what’s great about the previews that we’ve seen thus far it doesn’t look as if anyone is relying too heavily on the aspect of the dual role. Rudd will be playing double and, if we’re lucky, that will just mean that the show will be even more engaging, regardless of how many iterations of his character Rudd is playing.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres on October 18 on Netflix.

Looking for Alaska

This tween drama mini-series is produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage both producers of young adult drama “The O.C.” with Savage previously serving as executive producer on CW series “Gossip Girl.”  The show features a cast of relative newcomers including Charlie Plummer and Kristine Froseth playing the title characters of Miles and Alaska respectively.
