Unlike in the film “Free Solo,” the climbing feat that Nirmal Purja tackles in the new documentary, “14 Peaks,” has already been done before. But the climber is hoping to do it faster. Much, much faster.
As seen in the trailer for “14 peaks: Nothing Is Impossible,” the film follows the journey of Purja, as he decides he wants to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter mountains. Previously, this was done in a record time of seven years. Purja aims to do that exact thing in only seven months, risking his life to do something people assume is impossible.
The documentary is directed by Torquil Jones. ‘14 Peaks’ is executive produced by “Free Solo” filmmakers, Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, alongside Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja, Mark Webber, and Anna Barnes.
“14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible” debuts on Netflix on November 29. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible explores Nepal’s deep connection to high-altitude mountaineering through the eyes of Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja, a fearless, fun-loving Nepali climber on a quest he dubs “Project Possible” – to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter mountains in just seven months, breaking the previous record of seven years. With a team of skilled Sherpas, he traverses Mount Everest, K2, and other iconic peaks through extreme weather, life-or-death decisions, and the emotional weight of his mother’s illness back home. 14 Peaks is a thrilling, action-packed story about courage, perseverance, and pushing the limits of human endurance.
