Judd Apatow’s “Funny People” was probably one of the better movies of a shitty summer – the first two-thirds were a fascinating, surprisingly cruel look at the psyches of professional comedians, followed by a final act which came from a different movie altogether. Nevertheless, we’ve been keen to take another look at it, and we’ll get a chance on November 24th, when the two-disc DVD and Blu-Ray are released. As is standard with Apatow movies, it’s loaded with extras – the DVD has:
* Gag reels
* Deleted/extended/alternate scenes
* Line-O-Rama Alternate lines from Apatow’s improv-heavy process
* Funny People Diaries A four part behind-the-scenes documentary
* Judd Apatow’s High School Radio Show, where the future director would interview comedians
* Raaaaaaandy! Mockumentary on Aziz Ansari’s character in the movie
* Music From Funny People Documentary looking at the music from the film
* From the Archives Including Seth Rogen doing stand up at 13 and Adam Sandler’s first appearance on Letterman, as well as the prank phone call that opens the movie.
* The Films Of George Simmons Clips from the likes of “Merman” and “Sayonara Davey,” the films-within-a-film that Sandler’s character starred in.
* Yo Teach! Mockumentary about the sitcom, starring Jason Schwartzmann’s character
The Blu-Ray version, clearly the one to go for, also has additional deleted scenes, Line-O-Ramas and archive material, as well as Sandler and Apatow’s appearance on “Charlie Rose,” and over an hour of in-character stand up from the actors in the film. Oh, and all the useless interactive content that no-one ever touches. Between all that, and the fact that the movie runs only slightly shorter than “Heimat,” it’ll keep you busy for quite a while.
