An arty period piece from the director of difficult material like "The Proposition" and "The Road"? Such could be the case when John Hillcoat's bloody prohibition drama "Lawless" hits theaters at the end of the summer, but you wouldn't know it by the marketing of the film. If The Weinstein Company has their way, you're going to hear about this film over and over again until it hits August 29th. They're beating the drum loudly thus far (as is their wont) and nothing seems to be off the table so far. Character posters have already arrived and maybe we'll see some corportate tie-ins later in the year? Makers Mark? Some kinda yummy whiskey?
Starring an all-star cast of Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasikowska and more, the two latest pieces of marketing, clips from the film, have arrived via EW and Hulu.
The first clips centers on the eccentric villian Guy Pearce who plays Special Agent Charlie Rakes, a man hellbent on screwing up the Bondurant brothers' bootlegging operation, and the taciturn and mean Bondurant brother played by Tom Hardy. The second clip focuses on the youngest brother, played by Shia LaBeouf and a heart to heart with his older brother, again played by Hardy. Reviews from Cannes seem to be a thumbs up (including our review), so those of us who won't see the picture until August are still pretty excited for it. Check out the clips below.
