2009 Cannes Un Certain Regard Winner 'Dogtooth' To Hit Theaters This Summer

Kino International plans to release Greek film “Dogtooth” by Giorgos Lanthimos (“Kinetta”) in New York and Chicago in June, with a slow rollout to other more cities in summer and fall, with a DVD/Blu-Ray release by the end of the year. The film, which as earned a near universal praise, took home Un Certain Regard award from Cannes last year. We reviewed the film at TIFF and saying that “The craft is near-flawless” and that it’s “…one of the most striking and memorable features” of the festival.

The film has similarities to early Michael Haneke (“Benny’s Video”) or Lars Von Trier (“Antichrist”), with the twisted domestic drama focusing a husband and wife who have conducted something of a social experiment on their children, restricting them from any influence or knowledge of the outside world. Things go haywire when a woman, brought in to sex-up the young son, begins giving them things from the outside world, such as a VHS movie, and the family seems set to implode.

After the jump are the the film’s upcoming release dates and festival appearances followed by a trailer for the film.
