Hollywood is hungover this morning. Last night, the Golden Globes — the supposedly looser counterpart to the Oscars — got all the A-list stars together and gave them trophies. And while there were some highlights and lowlights, the event was mostly pretty forgettable.
Things kicked off with a bang, starting with a star-studded, “La La Land“-inspired musical number. But from there things hit a lull with Jimmy Fallon‘s schtick not going over well with the crowd, and Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig providing more laughs in their two minutes on stage than the late night host could conjure the entire night. Meryl Streep used her time on stage accepting a lifetime achievement award to put Donald Trump on blast, while the darling of the night was “La La Land,” leaving director Damien Chazelle genuinely astonished.
