2018 Golden Globes Winners (As It Happens)

Another year, and another Golden Globes ceremony in the bag. The big winner tonight was “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” which took Best Picture — Drama, Best Actress,  Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay.

The quartet of wins for the Fox Searchlight was somewhat of a surprise, given that during much of the awards season run-up, the love for the film seemed to be somewhat cool for the guilds. But it’s worth remembering that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association play by their own rules, and that it’s not unusual for the Oscars to shake out quite differently.

Overall, Fox Searchlight has lots to celebrate tonight, not only with ‘Ebbing,’ but for “The Shape Of Water” which picked up Best Director and Best Original Score. A24 also shone, winning Best Actor for James Franco in “The Disaster Artist,” along with Best Comedy and Best Actress for “Lady Bird.”

In terms of shutouts or snubs, “Get Out” and “Dunkirk” walked away empty handed, and though Netflix scored with Best Actor for Aziz Ansari in “Master Of None,” it was Hulu and Amazon‘s night to surprise with wins for “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”
