From Jim Carrey, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro to Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and….Chris Diamantopoulos? If the wind is blowing the way it should, it looks like you’re looking at your new “The Three Stooges” which marks an interesting shift in casting from the Farrelly Brothers‘ previously envisioned version.
Variety is reporting that Diamantopoulos, perhaps best known for a ten-episode stint on “24” last year, is now leading the pack of contenders for the final stooge spot of Moe. So what got him on the radar of the Farrellys? Apparently, it was his role as Robin Williams in the 2005 NBC TV movie “Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of ‘Mork & Mindy’” — which is astonishingly on point (see below) — that earned the attention of the directors. Diamantopoulos recently screen-tested and should be expecting an offer according to the trade.
If it all plays out and no one gets hit in the head, Diamantopoulos will join Hayes as Larry, Sasso as Curly and Sofia Vergara in the female lead role. Lensing is expected to begin any day now for a 2012 release.
