'24' & 'Battlestar Galactica' Star Katee Sackhoff Lands Female Lead In New 'Riddick' Sequel

nullOh, so we guess that new "Chronicles Of Riddick" movie is happening after all. After pre-production was abruptly shut down in Montreal late last fall, and then started up again before the end of the year, it appears it's all systems go at Universal for Vin Diesel and David Twohy as the project, which last we heard was waiting a greenlight, now appears to be on the move.

Deadline reveals that Katee Sackhoff — perhaps best known as Dana Walsh on "24" or by nerds for her turn as Captain Thrace on "Battlestar Galactica" — has snagged the female lead opposed Diesel in the upcoming, and still untitled movie set to be directed by David Twohy. A pretty vague synopsis has been floating around for this one that centers on Riddick who is left for dead on an isolated planet and has to fight for survival against alien predators. Soon bounty hunters enter the fray all looking to kill him off, but dude is on a mission of vengeance and can't be stopped. And oh yeah, he also has to save his home planet of Furya from destruction.

No word yet if Karl Urban — said last fall to be reprising his role as Vaako from "The Chronicles Of Riddick" — is confirmed to be back, but the wheels seem to be in motion. No word yet on a release date, but Diesel's wish of having this shoot in 2012 seems to be coming true.
