It seems the long title for “The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman” is no longer necessary. Now lopped down to simply “Charlie Countryman,” the debut from music video director Fredrik Bond is coming to cinemas in a couple short months, following its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January, so it’s time to start promotin’.
And thus, three posters for the film have popped up online, two official jobs via Moviefone and one international and/or sales type job via Jarno Soeters. In any event, all three play up the surrealistic tale of the titular American who meets a beautiful girl on a flight to Europe and then has to go on the run from her vicious gangster boyfriend. Ain’t love grand. We caught the film in Park City, and our own Rodrigo Perez was decidedly not a fan, calling the Shia LaBeouf starring effort “overwrought and incoherent.” Co-starring Evan Rachel Wood, Mads Mikkelsen, Melissa Leo and Rupert Grint, ‘Countryman’ arrives on November 15th on VOD and in cinemas.
Meanwhile, Jason Reitman‘s “Labor Day” gets a first poster that is nothing but the official still we’ve seen already with words on it. Hooray? The fugitive-romance-coming-of-age story hit both Telluride and TIFF, but not with the same impact as Reitman’s other films. We caught up with it in Colorado, with our man on the ground summing it up thusly: “Getting earnest is swell, but for anyone who thought emotional complexity would be a hallmark of all Reitman’s films, that peach pie is a little hard to swallow.” See for yourself on Christmas Day.
