Listen, we know the economic crisis around the world has affected everybody on some level or another, but this is kind of ridiculous.
Announced last week as a final addition to the Venice Festival, and joining the TIFF lineup this morning, Johnnie To‘s “Life Without Principle” seems to be a pretty overwrought affair about these financially lean times which have weighed heavily on people from all facets of life. Okay, that’s fine, but these new clips have nothing in the way of any subtlety with economic woes turning kids into orphans and men in power into murderers. The picture is pretty much summed up by a clip which shows a man weeping in his car as the stock market numbers keep falling. Borderline silly with lots of big gestured acting, “Life Without Principle” doesn’t seem to be the To we know of “Election” or “Mad Detective” fame. Bummer.
