Updated Recap: Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionire” was the big winner of the 66 Annual Golden Globes taking home four major awards including the coveted Best Picture and Best Director prizes. It’s nice to see something relatively small like a Fox Searchlight film blow all the majors out of the water. They’ve been doing a fantastic indie-major job for three years running now bringing little films that could like, “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Juno” to the big leagues. Kudos to them.
Kate Winslet made the most noise in the acting categories taking the top two dramatic awards for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for “Revolutionary Road” and “The Reader” respectively. The next big winner was “The Wrestler,” which won two awards, one for Mickey Rourke’s excellent comeback turn in the Best Actor field and one for Bruce Springsteen for the eponymous Best Original Song. The rest of the results and the live-blogging are below.
8:10-late start: Some “live blogging”, huh? We just got here, fucking people who don’t know how to use turnstiles and make us miss our subway, gah! Anyhow, here we are. The first award has obviously gone to Kate Winslet for “The Reader,” it’s a Best Supporting Role. Someone else should have won. And Bruce Springsteen has taken Best Original Song which rules. BTW, we’re not doing the TV stuff obviously.
8:20-8:45: The next movie category is Best Animated film. Obviously this is going to “Wall-E” unless the world’s gone mad. Love those eyebrows Jonas Brothers. Sally Hawkins has taken Best Actress for the Comedy section for “Happy-Go-Lucky,” man. We’re very down with that. Does live blogging mean, we’re supposed to comment on fashion and shit like that cause pass.
8:50: Best Supporting Actor Is Next
8:52: How does he age in reverse if he’s born a baby?
8:53: Grey Gardens Actresses, that movie’s been mad delayed.
8:53: Holy shit, P. Diddy could win a Golden Globe for something!

8: 59: You complete Me! Yay, for Heath and nice little speech by Christopher Nolan.
9:03: Best Foreign Film is next. If ‘Baader Meinhof’ wins we’re burning down something.
9:03: BTW, this coverage is riveting, right?
9:05: Will Nixon slip away again? Love us some Brokaw. His voice is almost a parody of itself at this point. ‘Frost/Nixon” film clip: “Do any fornicating last night?”
9:09: Woulda loved to see “I’ve Loved You So Long Get Some Love”… ah well. ‘Bashir’ is a good deserving film too.
9:11: Man, Laura Linney is great. Never saw that mini-series, but she’s always excellent.
9:12: Best Screenplay is next. Is anyone even reading this?? [ed. probably not]
9:19: Seth Rogen, kind off color drug joke about Mickey Rourke, no?
9: 20: “Slumdog Millionaire,” yes! Could this be the beginning of a big sweep for the film. We really hope so.
9:22: Man, we wanted Steve Carrell to win. We barely watch TV, but man the U.S. office of “The Office” is pretty much our favorite show. Can’t hate on Baldwin though (Note: tried to watch it a few times and was never as funny as we hoped).
9:26: One person is reading! Next major award is Best Score for a film, but there’s lots of clips and TV stuff coming before this. We’re gonna grab a beer.
9:28: We hate to be all Joan Rivers, but what the fuck is Renee Zellweger wearing?
9:29: Man “The Reader” was so overrated. Only the Globes would love it.
9: 32: Still love “The Office,” but we joined it late. Maybe “30 Rock” on DVD in a while.
9:33: Paul Giamatti. A deserving actor. TV stuff, zzzz.
9:34: Remember when “Entourage” was good? Man, totally fucking bailed on that show after season 2.
9:36: Love how Tracey Morgan always seems like he’s totally coked out.
9:39: Prediction: Slumdog takes all! But maybe Nolan wins director, we’ll see. Is this thing on??
9:43: Your boy Diddy!
9:45: Called it! Or at least at home we did. Good ol A.R. Rahman and ‘Slumdog’ take score. At this point in boring Awards Season, including the Oscars, we personally hope Danny Boyle’s film wipes out the competition.
9:49: We bet Spielberg brings the pain with this Cecil B. Demile award. Expect this one to be controversial. Btw, we should probably delete this nonsense afterwards, no?
9:51: We’re pretty sure the most commented Playlist story has about seven comments, let’s break that tonight! What’s with songs being played in commercials and the band name being show in the lower right hand chyron?
10:01: Cecil B Demile in your face! We knew he was going to get this!
10:02: Thank god he gave props to Scorsese. Has he won one of these? Obviously he deserves one.
10:07: Nice speech Spielberg. Pretty generous and great. Classy too. Loved the part about not kotowing to the economic bullshit and churning out pap. Amen, brother.
10:10: “Please don’t cyberstalk him!” God, “He’s Just Not That Into You” looks like a fucking trainwreck. We might just have to go see it out of morbid curiosity.
10:13: Heh, Emma Thompson is funny. Dustin Hoffman plays a good straightman.
10:14: Hell yes! Danny Boyle Best Director, love it. Maybe awards season won’t be so boring. Very, very, very pleased. In your face Fincherfan.
10:15: Btw, he’s like the nicest guy in the whole world. So deserving too. He’s the best.
10:15: Best Comedy actor is next. “Revolutionary Road” got way too snubbed this year. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good film. With great performances.
10:18: Barthelona! Does Sandra Bullock think she has a Spanish accent?
10:20: Colin Farrell is so great here. How excellent was that Florida/recount crack? Martin McDonagh is awesome too and we love that he aptly describes the qualities of ‘Bruges’ which is heart, comedy, vulnerability and soul. This is a bit of a comeback moment for him here obviously. You probably heard his self-deprecating drug/rehab quip.
10:23: Salma Hayek is up next to introduce the ‘Vicki’ clip. Mmm, Salsa, I mean, Salma.
10:27: They didn’t even show the clip of the film’s best moment, “Speak English!”
10:28: Borat, LOL! Ha, ha ha.Sacha Baron Cohen makes the Globe crowd blush and groan with his jokes on Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie. Guess those two will never work together now. The appalled crowd reactions were priceless. Hopefully someone took a picture (Sacha Baron Cohen: “The recession is affecting everyone. Victoria Beckham hasn’t eaten for three weeks. Charlie Sheen has been forced to have sex without paying for it. And even Madonna has had to get rid of one of her personal assistants. Our thoughts go out to you, Guy Ritchie.”)
10:29: Wow, ‘Vicky’ for Best Comedy, a big surprise, we figured “Happy Go Lucky” or “In Bruges” would win. Naturally, Woody is a no show, but that’s ok, another deserving film gets some love.
10:36: Freida Pinto is gorgeous.
10:39: Wow, two in a row! Awesome, for ‘Revolutionary Road’ to win some love. And Kate Winslet was pretty solid in the film. Woulda been nice to see Kristin Scott Thomas take it, but oh well. She definitely deserved this award moreso than ‘The Reader’ win. She’s right, btw. Leo DiCaprio is fantastic in the film, probably his best adult role in years.
10:43: Fucking TV actors. They probably missed the training session for presenting an award.
10:50: Mickey Rourke takes Best!
10:54: Woulda thought Mickey’s speech woulda been more emotional. Oh well. The comeback story continues. He’s aso the first actor of the night that they shooed off with music.
10:55: Love that Aronofsky flipped Rourke the bird. Ha.
10:58: Oh yeah Slumdog, Best Picture! Very happy. All’s well that ends well. Boyle totally earned this. All the way to Oscar we say! 😀
11:01: And yeah, that’s a wrap. We’re pretty pleased with how the night went. Nothing that made us too mad.
11:04: Snubs will come tomorrow, but obviously “Milk” and ‘Ben Button’ were totally shut out. And those two had the most nominations too.
