Every year, amongst the countless films that see a theatrical release — no matter how small — there are a select few that are destined for that no man’s land known as direct-to-video. The latest entry in this grand tradition is “Revenge For Jolly!,” a film which our man in Tribeca was not a fan of, calling it “the most excruciating 80+ minutes you’ll spend in a theater this year.” And now a new trailer for the film has dropped online, so see how bad it is for yourself below.
Starring Brian Pestos alongside a slumming-it Oscar Isaac as wayward cousins, the two set off to avenge the death of Pestos’s dog, Jolly. Along the way the two run into a deep cast of celebrity cameos that include Elijah Wood, Gillian Jacob, Kristen Wiig, Bobby Moynihan, Adam Brody, Ryan Phillippe, Garret Dillahunt and Kevin Corrigan. Isaac and Pestos are trashed throughout, which we’re sure is meant to lead to laughs, and judging by the smash cuts to black scored by gunshots and shocking violence.
In a strange case of truth in advertising, the trailer seems to highlight all the problems that our reviewer had with the film, right down to repeating scenes of violence. In any event, if you want to sit through an excruciating 80+ minutes in the comfort of your own home, “Revenge for Jolly” arrives on DVD May 7th. Check out the trailer below.
