Back in July it was announced that Warner Brothers was pulling the troubled Spike Jonze film, “Where the Wild Things Are,” from its 2009 release schedule. The announcement wasn’t much of a shock since we had been hearing about WB’s issues with the Jonze’s vision for the film for quite some time. But it was disappointing for those of us who were looking forward to seeing Jonze’s first feature since 2002’s “Adaptation.”
Well, apparently the studio had a change of heart and has decided to release the film October 16th, 2009. On one hand this is exciting news, as it means we will finally get to view the infamous film, but the recent news also makes us wonder what changes Warners has made to Jonze’s original film that has them feeling comfortable enough to finally give it a release. We hope said tweaks are minimal, but the decision seems to stem more from the fact that the studio is running thin on films due to last year’s writer’s strike than it does any real indications that the project is in the clear.
Or maybe we’re just projecting. Either way, we’re glad the release date is back on track.
