Late last year word arrived that none other than Ricky Gervais landed the lead role in the “The Muppets 2” with “Modern Family” star Ty Burrell taking over for Christoph Waltz in one of the other two major parts. At the time it was rumored that the film was “a Euro-caper,” and now THR is reporting that Tina Fey has snagged the female lead role opposite fellow Golden Globe host Gervais.
Though the plot details are still under wraps, the trade confirms that the film is “a European-set adventure” and that Fey is in talks to “play a Russian gulag prison guard.” Liz Lemon as a Russian prison guard? Sounds great, and it follows in the grand tradition of “The Muppet” movies tackling different genres. It would also mark a reteaming of sorts for Gervais and Fey, as they both appeared in "The Invention Of Lying," which nobody saw anyway. This project will likely bear more comedic fruit.
However, before we get to hear Fey say “Nyet!,” she’ll be hosting the Golden Globes this Sunday night with the hilarious Amy Poehler. Check out a new promo featuring the two below.
