Thirteen years ago, if you had said the modest comedy hit "Barbershop" would launch a franchise, few would’ve believed you. But here we are with "Barbershop: The New Cut," and the gang is back for more shop talk, with a few new faces along for the ride.
Ice Cube, Common, Nicki Minaj, Eve, and Cedric The Entertainer are the lead players this time around, with the plot revolving around the addition of women to the traditional boys club space – and the sparks that ensue as a result. And in terms of the creative process, Malcolm D. Lee left his door open.
“Whatever suggestions Cedric and Cube had — whether it was for me or any newcomer to the movie — they were always about making the movie better,” the director told EW. “I really appreciated, and I think Nicki did too. She’s a star in her own right. Here she is part of an ensemble, but she fell right in line with how we were going to make this movie and make it as good as we can.”
"Barbershop: The Next Cut" opens on April 15, 2016. Watch below.
