With "Spectre" hitting $500 million worldwide, and with audiences giving Bond’s latest outing an A- Cinemascore, it would seem that for the most part, people are enjoying 007’s latest globe-trotting mission. But critics were a bit a more mixed, and as we broke it down in our feature, The Good, The Bad & The Weird Of James Bond Blockbuster "Spectre," the picture left much to be desired. However, leave it to former special agent Pierce Brosnan to put into a couple sentences what is fundamentally broken about the picture.
“I thought it was too long. The story was kind of weak — it could have been condensed. It kind of went on too long. It really did,” the actor told HitFix. And it’s hard to disagree. **SPOILERS AHEAD**
At the end of the day, "Spectre" is essentially about a family grudge, but also tackles post-9/11 surveillance, along with what it means to take a life. It’s all rather clumsily handled, which makes the 148-minute running time tick by all the more slowly, and tediously.
However, Brosnan has no beef with Daniel Craig, saying, “He’s a mighty warrior, and I think he found a great sense of himself in this one with the one-liners and a nice playfulness there. Just get a tighter story, and he’ll have another classic.” Again, it’s hard to disagree.
"Spectre" is now playing multiplexes nationwide, and while Brosnan’s take is interesting, The Onion wins the grand prize for their hilarious review. Watch it below.
