Raccoons & Infidelity Run Through New Clip And Images From ‘The Details’ Starring Tobey Maguire

nullThrough the beginnings of Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio’s careers existed a parallel role choice before diverging in approach, and so it's with perhaps a tinge of familiarity, post-“Revolutionary Road,” that Maguire stepped in for his own take on a crumbling marriage with 2011 Sundance hit “The Details.” However, despite finding distribution coin (to the tune of $8 mil) from The Weinstein Company, the Jacob Aaron Estes (“Mean Creek”) black comedy is just now finding theatrical release next month, but rather than bury the film, they’ve instead ramped up promotion with a slew of new material to witness.

Keeping on the more character-based, less superpower-infused path most recently glimpsed from the actor in 2009’s excellent “Brothers,” Maguire stars as one morally questionable half of a seemingly perfect couple in suburban Seattle, with the other being Elizabeth Banks. As he branches off into affairs with Laura Linney and Kerry Washington, he also contends with a growing infestation of raccoons in his backyard, the sum of which leads to his personal and professional life spiraling out of control. A just-released clip hints to this madness, as Maguire frolics in the garage of Washington’s husband, playing with vehicles and a possibly loaded gun.

Two new posters and a few images have hit the web too, and altogether they paint a compelling picture surrounding the film, one that might belie its time sitting on a shelf to deliver a great cast within a dark narrative. We witnessed the film last year at Sundance, and while it was described in press notes as an “existential horror” not unlike the Coens’ “A Serious Man,” our reviewer found that its “tonal inconsistencies keep it from being in the same league as some of the dark comedies it emulates.”

Still, pitch-black comedic performances from Maguire, Banks, and Linney might be worth a watch, so feast your eyes on the clip and images below before “The Details” opens in theatres November 2nd. [ET/Coming Soon/Recent Movie Posters]
