Another day, another round of Marvel rumors, however, these may not be so dubious. Number one, Heroic Hollywood’s Umberto Gonzales was on the Collider podcast (watch below) and as he’s wont to do, the fanboy reporter dropped a little nugget of Marvel TV related news that’s been in the air for some time (you can listen below). Apparently Marvel are looking to develop a “Moon Knight” show on Netflix to go along with their New York-scale universe that currently includes Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones (Iron Fist eventually too, but there are rumors that that one isn’t developing so quickly). This would make perfect sense. The Moon Knight character Marc Spector is often referred to as Marvel’s version of Bruce Wayne’s Batman, but low-tech, and not that far removed from what Daredevil already does. Plus that character has been in the winds for a while as a possibility.

Marvel’s clearly been discussing what other characters they can bring to the TV universe and credible rumors have suggested the small-scale Cloak & Dagger duo could also fit into the mix. Moon Knight is perfect scale-wise for Netflix and I’m sure Marvel are trying to figure out what they could do there, but if they really go for it, they’re going to need to find a way to differentiate the character from another masked vigilante type who fights crime on the New York streets at night like Daredevil. I’d believe the rumors, but I’d put it in the “we’ll see if it pans out” pile for now.
Meanwhile, “Thor: Ragnarok” recently landed director Taika Waititi (“What We Do In Shadows”) and as that film develops leaks are hitting the web. The first is, as you heard earlier this week, the idea of a cosmic trip that might involve The Hulk in what might end up being a team-up film. The latest rumors suggest, perhaps more credibly, that Marvel may include characters Valkyrie and her enemy The Enchantress as a way to include more females.

The Valkyrie character is a one-time Avenger in the comics, and there is a diversity mandate at Marvel and Disney behind and in front of the camera, so this could turn out to be true. There’s also the fact that Valkyrie is more a mystical, Norse-like character and would fit in perfectly with the Thor and Asgardian world. But the third “Thor” film is over two years away, so don’t be surprised if some of this changes and or is just creative ideas they are kicking around for now.
Elsewhere in the MCU, Heroic Hollywood is reporting that "Fruitvale Station" and "Creed" director Ryan Coogler is being sought by Marvel to direct "Black Panther." The movie will have a script by Joe Robert Cole (FX’s “American Crime Story”), however nothing is finished yet. But if Coogler is given a shot to develop the story alongside the screenwriter and Marvel, that could be an attractive proposition. "Black Panther" drops on February 16, 2018 during Black History Month so there’s still plenty of time.
Lastly, Marvel has officially announced they are working on a "Hellfire" series (it’s a working title for now) at Fox television which is a bit of a landmark move as it begins to unify 20th Century Fox (who own the entire "X-Men" universe) with Marvel and lord knows every geek in the world is praying for a Sony/Marvel like scenario where "X-Men" characters can cross over with the MCU. Back to "Hellfire." The ’60s show will follow a young Special Agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires — known as “The Hellfire Club,” who already appeared in one form in "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" — to take over the world.
Fox Networks‘ FX is also moving forward with "Legion" written/executive produced by "Fargo" creator Noah Hawley.
In the comics, Legion is the super-powered, but troubled son of "X-Men" founder Charles Xavier (played by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy in the two series of films thus far). Whether it’ll fully connect to "X-Men" or not remains to be scene, but there are connections there obviously.
Fans will want to see how this new business relationship develops because maybe it will pave the way for the mooted "X-Men" tv series that Fox wants to make, but Marvel actually owns rights to.
