Watch: First 'Batman Begins' Teaser Trailer Featuring Jonathan Nolan's "Favourite Writing From These Films"

nullA decade has passed since Christopher Nolan‘s "Batman Begins" hit cinemas, launching The Dark Knight trilogy, and marking a new era of superhero filmmaking. However, it’s easy to forget how much was riding on his movie at the time. Warner Bros. had seen the public perception of the property circle drain thanks to Joel Schumacher‘s "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin." So, to alleviate fans and moviegoers that "Batman Begins" would be a bold new take, the first teaser for the movie had to shoulder not just the expectations that were weighing on the film, but also establish the moody tone Nolan would pursue. And the minute long promo didn’t disappoint, with Christian Bale‘s voiceover monologue plus footage from "Batman Begins" promising something much different and more modern than had been seen before. However, the dialogue from the trailer didn’t appear again. So what gives? Well, Jonathan Nolan explains.

"I wrote this in a couple hours in my brother’s trailer while he was shooting the scene in which Bruce is arrested for stealing Wayne Corp supplies on his ‘journey’," Jonathan Nolan posted on Reddit. "Remains some of my favorite writing from these films. Was written specifically for the trailer. Wouldn’t have worked in the film."
