Beastie Boy Adam Yauch Launches Film Distribution Unit Oscilloscope Pictures

Beastie Boy Adam Yauch (aka MCA) has launched a full-service film distribution company Oscilloscope Pictures to go along with his music and film production facilities in downtown New York.

Yauch, a long-time video director under the pseudonym Nathaniel Hornblower – who has directed many of the Beastie’s videos – also directed and put together the rap trio’s 2006 Madison Square Gardens concert film, “Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That!”

The Beastie Boy renaissance man envisions running Oscilloscope like a indie-music label according to Variety (this is the point in the story where no one is allowed to mention Grand Royal). Yauch’s partner in crime is David Fenkel, a former VP of both domestic distribution and international sales for ThinkFilm (Think distributed ‘Awesome’).

“We’re not looking to throw big MGs at films,” Yauch said. “We’re looking to partner with filmmakers and put smart money into P&A so that we can really share with the backend with the filmmakers and we’re in the same boat together.”

Fenkel is heading out to the upcoming Berlin Film Festival and an announcement on the company’s first project should be announced within the next month or so.
