As the Oscar season heats up, studios always get stills of their contenders up onto the web, creating buzz, allowing readers to say, “Oh, so that’s what it’ll look like,” and this year is no exception.
In Entertainment Weekly’s list of ‘35 Movies We Can’t Wait To See’ (which includes “Underworld Awakening” and “One For The Money” but whatever) there are a small batch of new stills for a variety of Oscar bait films as well as some holiday movies that will allow you to turn your brain off for a moment. The New York Times also has a handful of pics from upcoming films as well in their preview piece.
In case you missed it yesterday, we posted the new looks at Jason Reitman's "Young Adult" and Angelina Jolie's directorial debut "In The Land Of Blood And Honey" (which dropped a surprisingly good trailer a few months back). With FilmDistrict releasing the film on December 23rd — in the original Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian language no less — it’s unclear what the movie’s Oscar chances will be, but we’ll certainly find out more soon as the movie continues to screen for critics.
Other flicks getting previewed include Stephen Daldry's 9/11 pic "Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close" with newcomer Thomas Horn; Steve McQueen's sex drama "Shame" starring Michael Fassbender; Meryl Streep as the loathed Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady"; Gary Oldman strutting his stuff in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and Michelle Williams looking great as usual in "My Week With Marilyn."
Looking to shut off your brain? There's George Lucas' WWII tale "Red Tails," Tom Cruise being Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" and Gina Carano kicking ass in Steven Soderbergh's R-rated "Haywire." And for all you Katherine Heigl fans: new looks at "New Year's Eve" and "One For The Money." Treat your eyeballs below.
