This isn't scientific or anything, and evidence still needs to gathered to turn this theory into a fact, but as Russell Brand's hair has become far less wild and as he's settled into a domestic life with his improbable wife Katy Perry, the man has gotten distinctly less funny. The witty, energetic comedian fell hard into the man-child stereotype with "Arthur," a movie that bizarrely took him away from the exact style of comedy that made him noteworthy. And now, it looks like yet again, Brand is ready to go Hollywood even if it means making him a completely anonymous comic actor.
Ranking up there as one of the worst movie titles since "I Think I Love My Wife," Warner Bros. has set up "The President Stole My Girlfriend" with Brand to produce and star. It seems the tepid $45 million take of "Arthur" hasn't scared off the WB from Brand. Penned by Matt Portenoy (the gestating "Porky's" remake and a segement of "Movie 43"), the movie is self explanatory, but we'll let Brand explain. "In this movie, the president steals the girlfriend of a sexy hippie—me, obviously,' Brand quipped to The Hollywood Reporter. "It was inspired by the night I naively invited [Warners president] Jeff Robinov for dinner."
No word yet on when this might roll, but it will probably have to sit a moment. Brand stars next in the musical "Rock Of Ages" (meh) but more intriguingly has a role in Diablo Cody's forthcoming directorial debut "Lamb Of God." Hopefully that will get Brand's mojo working again. At the very least, can somehow take away the hair products from this guy?
