Jaimie Alexander & 'Friday Night Lights' Star Zach Gilford Will Make 'The Last Stand' With Arnie

Frankly, we could do without another “The Terminator” movie even though Arnold Schwarzenegger still really wants to make one, but stuff like “The Last Stand” is really the sort of movies he should be making now. Low key, gritty and backed by the envelope pushing “I Saw The Devil” helmer Kim Ji-woon, this is the kind of fare will put his bastard child ways behind him, not some bloated “final” entry in a franchise that should have ended a long time ago. Anyway, this a long way of saying that Sif from “Thor” (aka Jaimie Alexander), and that guy from “Friday Night Lights” (aka Zach Gilford) are gonna back up the Governator in his next film.

Originally developed as a vehicle for Liam Neeson, the project has a script by first-time writer Andrew Knauer and veteran Jeffrey Nachmanoff — and recently rewritten by George Nolfi — that tells the story follows a disgraced LAPD cop in a new job in a small town who is trying to stop a drug cartel leader who has just busted out of prison and is trying to make it across the border. Alexander and Gilford will join Rodrigo Santoro as the team of cops on the small town force working with Ahnuld, with Sif having a bit of thing for Xerxes. Together they will team up against Peter Stormare who works for the still to be cast villain.

They better figure out who that person will be soon, as production kicks off in just over two weeks in New Mexico. And as you might guess, this is no Oscar season bait, so you’ll have skip over your 2012 calendar and circle January 18, 2013 because that’s when it will hit theaters. [Variety/Deadline]
