It seems the concept of horror being found right on your doorstep is experiencing a bit of mini-trend. The Guillermo Del Toro produced “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” finds scares under the covers at the end of the month, while Jim Sheridan dips into the psychological with “Dream House” in September. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo‘s “Intruders” seems to be falling right between those two films.
A new trailer has dropped for the picture starring Clive Owen and Daniel Bruhl, and at first it seems to hold something a bit different for the genre, with the story spanning two children living continents apart who are both spooked by some kind of creature and/or loud noises. But whatever goodwill the spot has is quickly undone by the suggestion that the monster might be Clive Owen himself. Yeah, didn’t see that one coming, did we? Fresnadillo — who has done good work with “28 Weeks Later” and “Intacto” — doesn’t seem to be carrying much of a directorial stamp here, and overall this one looks like a rather routine run through fare we’ve seen time and again before.
“Intruders” will premiere at TIFF next month before rolling out internationally; no word yet on a domestic release date. Synopsis and trailer below.
Juan and Mia, two children who live in different countries, are visited every night by a faceless intruder – a terrifying being that wants to get hold of them. These presence becomes more powerful and start ruling their lives as well as their families’. Anxiety and tension increase when their parents also witness these apparitions.
