'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' Teaser Posters Prove That Robert Downey Jr & Jude Law Are In It

Update: A preview of the full length trailer has hit. Check it out below.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” is one of the most anticipated films of the winter season. So it’s puzzling why, despite a few shoddy set photos and some unexciting production stills, word on this Guy Ritchie film has been scarce. Reuniting the first “Sherlock Holmes” team of director Ritchie, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, ‘A Game of Shadows’ adds Swedish “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star Noomi Rapace to the mix of what will surely be another action-soaked reiteration of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s classic character. Come December, the duo will find themselves squaring off against Holmes’ fierce archrival, Professor Moriarty, who despite all the internet speculation will be played by actor Jared Harris.

It looks like Warner Brother‘s marketing machine is finally underway, as the first teaser posters have made their way online. Doing little to ignite a fervor, these two close-ups of Downey and Law prove that they are certainly in the movie, and apparently two other people that audiences shouldn’t care about as much are also set to appear. The two previously mentioned additions, Rapace and Harris, are cheaply Photoshopped into the background, looking as if they are both being very mysterious, since after all, this is a movie about a detective. Once again, another example of Hollywood refusing to embrace a film’s marketing campaign as a chance to utilize poster artists along the lines of a Drew Struzan or Olly Moss.

The film opens in theaters around the world on December 16. Check ’em out in full below and don’t forget to watch some annoying Entertainment Weekly teaser footage of more footage that will appear tonight on ET (got that?). [Yahoo via Recent Movie Posters] —Benjamin Wright
