While John Cho is probably still best known as Harold Lee from the “Harold & Kumar” franchise, he’s quietly been making strides into bigger and better work, most notably as Sulu is the new “Star Trek” films and from his role on the shortlived “FlashForward.” And while the actor waits to get a call to find out what’s going on with “Star Trek 2,” he’s going to spend his summer working on another blockbuster sci-fi pic.
EW has revealed that Cho has joined Len Wiseman‘s “Total Recall.” The film stars Colin Farrell and Bryan Cranston, in the future-set story that follows Douglas Quaid (Farrell), a factory worker who begins to think he’s a spy, but doesn’t know whether it’s for Euromerica or New Shanghai, one of the two superpower countries in this world. Cranston plays Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who is plotting to invade New Shanghai. Nighy will take on the role of Quatto, the leader of the resistance with Kate Beckinsale playing Quaid’s wife and Jessica Biel as the love interest Melina. As for Cho, he’s going to get the ball rolling in the film as McClane (unfortunately not related to the “Die Hard” dude), a rep from the company that convinces Quaid to implant his brain with false memories.
While our curiosity meter is slowly raising on the project, it’s still being directed by Wiseman which is pretty much a dealbreaker in most cases. But, we have to admit, we’re intrigued. “Total Recall” will hit theaters on August 3, 2012.
