We’ll hand it to producer Marc Fiore. For his second movie “Gotti: Three Generations” — following National Lampoon’s “One, Two, Many” — he’s actually lining up some pretty interesting talent all around. With Nick Cassavetes signed on to direct and John Travolta in the lead role, one more actor has come aboard with a tabloid-ready name waiting in the wings.
Announced at a press conference in New York City this morning (via ComingSoon), it was revealed that Joe Pesci has joined the film with Lindsay Lohan (who attended) in talks but not yet signed for the picture. It’s somewhat of a coup landing Pesci considering he takes acting jobs few and far between these days. His last appearance was in “Love Ranch” last year (which got a limited release after pulling out of the David Bergstein muck) and previous to that, it was a very small cameo in Robert De Niro‘s 2006 film “The Good Shepherd.” As for Lohan, she has been tipped for movies for the past few months with her name coming up in the rumor mill for “Superman: Man of Steel” and more recently, she’s been pegged for the role of Sharon Tate in an upcoming Charles Manson biopic, “Eyes of a Dreamer.” But this looks to be the most legit of any news so far, though it likely all depends on the outcome of her upcoming court date following the felony grand theft charge for allegedly stealing a necklace from a jewelry store.
As the title implies, the film will take a look at the notorious Gotti crime family as told from the perspective of John Gotti Jr. (who was the one who sold and set up the picture about his family and father). Travolta will play John Gotti Sr., with Pesci lined up as Angelo Ruggiero, a high-ranking member of the Gambino crime family and close friend of Gotti. But even though they were buds, it was later revealed on FBI wiretaps that Ruggiero didn’t think much of Gotti, calling him a “sick motherfucker” who was often “wrong on a lot of things” and had a “fucking mouth that goes a mile a minute.” Ruggiero got into very deep trouble with the feds on a number of charges and eventually fell out with Gotti who considered executing him, but changed his mind when he learned Ruggiero was suffering from terminal lung cancer. As for Lohan, if it all comes together, she’ll play Gotti Sr.’s daughter, Victoria.
