Of all the guild awards this year, the WGA had the most intriguing list of nominees largely due to the number of high profile films — “Another Year,” “Biutiful,” “Blue Valentine,” “The Ghost Writer,” “The King’s Speech,” “Made in Dagenham,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “Toy Story 3” and “Winter’s Bone” among them — that were disqualified for not being formally submitted and/or created under the aegis of the organization. Regardless, the guild handed out its awards last night and winners are still representative of some of the year’s best work.
“Inception” and “The Social Network” walked away with Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay for Christopher Nolan and Aaron Sorkin respectively. Both are nominated for Oscars in those categories, but face stiff competition from a number of films that were shut out of WGA honors—so nothing is certain just yet.
Rounding things out Charles Ferguson, Chad Beck and Adam Bolt won in the documentary category for “Inside Job” and they will certainly hope to win it all again at the Oscars in a few weeks. [EW]
