Some good news for arthouse fans this morning. IFC Films has confirmed that Abbas Kiarostami‘s “Certified Copy” which made the festival rounds this year, will not only hit theaters on March 11, 2011 but will also be prepped for a future home video release by The Criterion Collection, marking yet another entry in the ongoing relationship between the two.
The film premiered at Cannes earlier this year where we first caught it and fell in love with it. Starring Juliette Binoche (who walked away with the Best Actress award from Cannes for her turn) the enigmatic, beautifully shot film follows a couple as they chronicle the history of their now severed relationship. Falling somewhere between “Before Sunrise“/”Before Sunset” and “Scenes From A Marriage” the film is bewitching and captivating and certainly one of the biggest highlights from Cannes this year.
No word yet on when the Criterion release will be but likely in the latter part of 2011. The film will mark Kiarostami’s third entry into the boutique label’s catalog, joining “Close Up” and “Taste Of Cherry.” This is definitely a film we encourage you to seek out; it’s a wonderful, heady film unlike any other you’re likely to see next year.
