'Avatar' 3D BluRay Arrives Dec. 1, It Will Cost You Lots Of Pandora Dollars

As was reported last month, while most people will be watching James Cameron‘s “Avatar” again in the comfort of their own home when the extensive special edition DVD/BluRay set hits on November 16th in boring old 2D, a 3D BluRay is on the way. You’re just going to have to buy a new TV to get it.

Panasonic has announced that the 3D BluRay of “Avatar” will land on December 1st and be exclusively distributed by the electronics giant. So how do you get it? If you buy a Panasonic Viera Full HD 3D television, you are eligible to redeem a bonus pack that will include the “Avatar” 3D BluRay disc and two pairs of 3D glasses. Better start counting up the change between the couch cushions.

“But hey, I’m one of the three people who already owns a 3D TV set,” you might be saying. Yeah, well, Panasonic has an exclusive window on the disc so it’s unknown when non-Panasonic owners of 3D sets will be able to fire up “Avatar” in their living rooms. Last we heard, Panasonic might have a window of up to a year meaning that unless you’re planning to buy a new, 3D TV, you’ll be stuck with drab two dimensions for now. But we’re pretty sure Cameron and Fox will eventually do a splashy 3D BluRay re-release to keep that money train rolling, so don’t worry about that. And in case you forgot, Cameron is lining upAvatar 2” and “Avatar 3” for his next films so there will be plenty more Pandora to come.
