Soundtrack Details & New Photos For Sofia Coppola's 'Somewhere' Revealed

On the eve of its Venice premiere, the Italian distributors of Sofia Coppola’s forthcoming “Somewhere” starring Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning have unveiled a host of new photos as well as soundtrack details for the film.

Bookended by Phoenix’s previously revealed “Love Like A Sunset” and tracks by composer William Storkson (who also contributed to “Lost In Translation”), the highly eclectic mix spanning from the likes of The Police, Bryan Ferry and The Strokes to Gwen Stefani and Amerie is pretty, well, Coppola-esque. Also included is the Strokes’ demo “I’ll Try Anything Once” featured in the trailer, but whether they all make the cut on an official soundtrack release remains to be seen.

After the jump, we have the soundtrack details as reported by Medusa (and no, the double listing Gwen Stefani’s “Cool” isn’t a typo; that’s what appears on the site so perhaps there’s a remix of some kind?), and just above is a first look at Italian actress Laura Chiatti with Dorff:

2. Ghandi Fix – William Storkson
3. My Hero – Foo Fighters
4. So Lonely – The Police
5.

“Everything I do as a screenwriter and director is a personal connection,” Coppola is quoted as saying on the Italian website, courtesy of Google Translate. “Your life experiences affect what you write. After ‘Lost in Translation’ this is my only other original script [to] become a movie. I feel that those films are more personal than others based on books or anything, because they talk through your experiences and thoughts.”

The film, of course, centers on a washed up actor whose transient lifestyle is flipped upside down by the introduction of an estranged daughter. Here’s a rough translated synopsis from the site which looks at things a bit differently.

‘Somewhere’ is a penetrating gaze and emotional universe of the actor Johnny Marco (Dorff), who lives in Hollywood, the legendary Chateau Marmont. Johnny goes around on his Ferrari and his house is a steady stream of girls and pills. He is totally at ease in this lethargic situation and carefree life, until his eleven year old daughter, Cleo (Fanning), arrives unexpectedly. Their encounter leads Johnny to existential reflections on [his] position in the world. Which way to go now?

The film features at this year’s Venice Film Festival before hitting theaters stateside December 22nd for what looks to be Focus Feature’s front and center award season contender and definitely one of our most anticipated films for the upcoming fall season. [MedusaFilms]
