First Look: Daniel Craig In Jon Favreau's 'Cowboys & Aliens'

Jon Favreau made an appearance at San Diego’s Comic-Con for his upcoming film “Cowboys & Aliens” this weekend and even somehow convinced the curmudgeonly Harrison Ford to attend, so naturally, footage was shown and here’s your first look at the picture’s lead, Daniel Craig.

An adaptation of the eponymous graphic novel and written by (or at least credited to) Mark Fergus, Hawk Ostby, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the film centers on a group of Apache Indians and Western settlers in Arizona who must lay their differences aside when an alien spaceship crash lands in their city. The film co-stars Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano, Olivia Wilde, Noah Ringer, Walton Goggins, Keith Carradine, Ana de la Reguera and more.

You can read a description of the footage here. 10 minutes in total was played, more than Favreau has ever showed at a Con, but the filmmaker said he’s aware not many audiences, even the Comic-Con devotees, are completely familiar with the property and acclimating them to the comic and film was the main idea. “I felt for ‘Cowboys and Aliens,’ because the source material was not well-known — it’s really based on an original script by the guys who did Star Trek, [Alex] Kurtzman and [Roberto] Orci and [Damon] Lindelof — that we really wanted to show what tone of tone of the piece was and we really wanted to highlight our great cast,” he told Movieline. “So we hustled. We adjusted our shooting schedule — we started with some heavy-duty stuff that you wouldn’t normally start with, just so we could be ready for this.”

The film hits theaters July 29, 2011.
