'The Fighter' May Not Appear At TIFF 2010 & May Bypass Film Fest Circuit Says Mark Wahlberg

The Toronto International Film Festival is practically right around the corner and runs September 9-19, 2010.

Speculation has already begun in our minds (hopefully some kind of piece soon), but one film we’re highly anticipating — David O. Russell’s “The Fighter,”starring Mark Wahlberg as the boxer “Irish” Micky Ward and Christian Bale as his recovering drug-addict/former boxing brother who helped train him before going pro in the mid 1980s — won’t be appearing unfortunately.

In an interview with Collider, Wahlberg seems to suggest that the film will be skipping the festival route altogether. “We talked about it,” Wahlberg said about conversations he had with O. Russell, the studio and the producers. “But I don’t think it will end up doing any of that. I think, you know, we’re just going to go out and go big.”

“The Fighter” is scheduled to hit theaters on December 10 and Wahlberg says we’ll be seeing a trailer fairly soon. “I’ve already seen one cut of a trailer and everybody is just super excited about the movie.” In the same interview, Wahlberg called the movie the best film he’s ever been in. Color us excited.

Meanwhile, TIFF hasn’t really unveiled its line-up yet, but it has announced its opener. Canadian-made sports-themed comedy “Score: A Hockey Musical,” that stars Olivia Newton-John, Stephen McHattie (“Watchmen”) and newcomers Noah Reid and Allie McDonald. The best way to describe this choice of opener is to say, the less said, the better. The Playlist will be at TIFF once again this year, so hopefully you’ll be closely dialed in to our coverage.
