Forget Raymond — everybody loves Betty White. The Golden Girl has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity that seemed to kick off thanks to her turn in “The Proposal” and kept building, culminating in a successful internet campaign that landed her a hosting slot on “Saturday Night Live.” Well, the Betty White love isn’t finished yet as producer Jerry Weintraub hopes to capture some of that lightning in a bottle for himself.
Deadline reports that Weintraub recently pitched to Warner Bros. a new version of the Georges Burns comedy “Oh, God!” that would star Betty White and Paul Rudd. It seems to be nothing more than dream casting at this point, but we have to admit, its pretty inspired. Weintraub has been looking to remake the film for a while now and at one point had Ellen DeGeneres attached. The story revolves around a regular mortal who is selected by God to be his messenger to the world. Rudd would play the messenger and White as the woman upstairs. At this point, neither thesp has been approached, and the script isn’t yet final, but expect everything to start moving very quickly if either one of them shows interest.
We can already see the internet campaign for this one beginning, so fasten your seat belts. In the meantime, here’s the trailer for the original film directed by Carl Reiner.
